Adoptive parents are often advised to read Nancy Verrier's book. It's the author's theory on what damage done when children are separated from their mothers. It was recommended to me by someone on an adoption helpline and I bought it the day before my 45th birthday - some 7 years ago. I hadn't felt wounded until I read the book. It had a profound effect on me.
